Black circles in center of vision when I went to go to bed, but opened my eyes a few min. later. They disappeared after 4 min or so.

I am happy to get this information I was diagnosed only nine months ago with dry macular degeneration in my left eye and am still getting use to all the terms used, my problem is though in that short of time I am already having vision changes such as when I am reading I get a haziness on the outer side of my eye, that started at about the seventh month mark and now I get a haze across the whole eye once in awhile when looking at a distance, I have also been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes, I guess my question is what kind of doctors are you seeing? Or who should I be seeing? I am seeing a ophthalmologist now but she has not recommended any treatment program so I am a little concerned, I live in South Dakota and I will travel if needed for a specialist, thank you to everyone I have received some great information and encouragement, God bless you all

Dark or blank spots in vision are common symptoms of AMD, particularly in intermediate and advanced stages. These spots (also called scotomas) can appear black, gray, or red and may not be visible all the time. Some people notice them more when looking at light-colored surfaces, like when looking at a ceiling while in bed.

Dark or blank spots in vision are common symptoms of AMD, particularly in intermediate and advanced stages. These spots (also called scotomas) can appear black, gray, or red and may not be visible all the time. Some people notice them more when looking at light-colored surfaces, like when looking at a ceiling while in bed.

The temporary nature of what you experienced is worth noting, but any sudden changes in vision should be discussed with your eye doctor. Since you mentioned having intermediate AMD, it's especially important to:

• Monitor your vision daily using an Amsler grid
• Track any changes in your vision patterns
• Contact your eye doctor immediately if you notice sudden changes
• Ensure you have proper lighting when reading or doing detailed tasks
• Consider discussing AREDS2 supplements with your doctor, as they may help slow vision loss in intermediate AMD

Remember that early detection of changes can lead to better management of your condition.

Hi Lynn, have you told your Dr about your new vision problems? Did she give you an Amsler grid? I have read where people recommend a Retinologist. At least that would give you a baseline to work with. That’s someone who specializes in diseases like macular degeneration. There is also a FB group I belong to that is great for info on Macular Degeneration, called Living with Macular Degeneration. Hope this helps, it’s definitely new territory for us. PS I was diagnosed with Intermediate Macular Degeneration last Nov.
