Hearing that from a doctor can feel really devastating, and it's completely understandable to feel frustrated and confused. That said, it may be worth getting a second opinion β specifically from a retinal specialist, if you haven't already seen one. General eye doctors and retinal specialists can sometimes have very different levels of expertise when it comes to AMD treatment options.
A myAMDteam member shared a similar experience, finding that a second doctor β a specialist β was able to offer much more insight and information than they had previously received. There are actually several treatment options that exist for AMD, depending on the type and stage. These include:
- Anti-VEGF injections β for wet AMD, to manage abnormal blood vessel growth
- AREDS 2 supplements β vitamins and minerals that may slow progression in intermediate dry AMD
- Complement inhibitor injections (Syfovre and Izervay) β FDA-approved for geographic atrophy
- Lifestyle changes β like diet, quitting smoking, and sun protection, which can help slow progression
It's worth asking a retinal specialist specifically: *"What treatment would you recommend, and why?"* and *"Can you explain my options in more detail?"* Being proactive and asking the right questions can make a real difference.

I'm considering changing my retional clinic all together. They are so busy that they don't even want to answer your questions and are actually rude when they do. Try another Doctor. Can't hurt and may help. Good luck to you.

Each doctor I went to said there is nothing they can do. They said it would do more damage then it would do any good. They describe my retina just like a dust molecule floating in the air. And said they tried to touch it it would disintegrate and all agreed that it would be better just like it is and nature take its course.
