Blurry vision with Intermediate Macular Degeneration & Cataract surgery 6 years ago.

Intermediate Macular Degeneration with scotomas, previous cataract surgery but now my vision is blurry. My eye Dr said at my last appt. that my AMD was progressing. People with AMD have said their vision improved after cataract surgery, which mine did at first, but now my vision is blurry.

HI, I had cataract surgery to see if it would help, but there was no change, which my doctor told me could be. Just have to b e positive, stay strong as we can.

HI Andrea, thank you for your positive comment. Most of us heading into shots for the eyes, are nervous and scared. Your comment helps us to feel a little better about them and not make ourselves so nervous and stressed about it. I'm glad there are the options of shots available. Lori

I feel like I didn’t explain myself well. I had the cataract surgery 6 years ago, I had clear vision, could read without glasses, etc. But the last two years, now blurry vision, I need reading glasses to read, and just recently, I’ve been getting a headache after reading a paperback book after a few hours. Thanks for the replies, it’s much appreciated!

Hello

I’m interested in writing a brief article to patients with AMDI have wet
AMD in both eyes and have been receiving injections for about six months
I would like to assure patients that are hesitant to get injections that it
is painless and definitely makes a difference in the progress of the
condition
Please let me know what you think of this idea

It's completely understandable to feel frustrated when vision that improved after cataract surgery starts to blur again. Since your eye doctor has confirmed your AMD is progressing, the blurriness is most likely related to that progression rather than the cataract surgery itself.

As intermediate AMD advances, blurry central vision can worsen and cover a larger area. The scotomas (blind spots) you're experiencing are also a known part of this stage. Many myAMDteam members have shared similar experiences — an initial boost in vision after cataract surgery, followed by gradual changes as AMD continues to progress. The surgery itself doesn't appear to worsen AMD for most people, but it also can't stop AMD from progressing over time.

Some things worth discussing with your eye doctor include:

- Whether your AMD has moved toward a more advanced stage
- If any new or adjusted treatments might help slow progression
- Low vision aids or tools that could help with daily tasks
- How often you should be monitored going forward

Staying closely connected with your ophthalmologist is really key here, especially since your AMD is actively progressing.
