Why does the blurry area in your left eye appear to the left rather than in the center?
You're right that AMD typically affects central vision, but scotomas (blind spots) can appear in different locations within your central visual field, not just dead center. With intermediate AMD, these blind spots may develop in various positions as drusen deposits damage different parts of your macula.
The blurry area you're experiencing to the left is still part of your central vision loss—it just means the damage is occurring slightly off to one side rather than directly in the middle of your macula. This is actually quite common with scotomas.
As intermediate AMD progresses, these blind spots can become larger and may eventually affect more of your central vision. The specific location depends on where the retinal cell damage is occurring in your macula.
Since you're noticing specific changes in your vision pattern, it's important to mention this to your eye doctor at your next appointment. They can monitor whether the scotoma is expanding or if new areas are developing. Using an Amsler grid daily at home can also help you track any changes in the size or location of these blurry areas.

Good question. Central vision is usually the case, but sometimes the macula can be on the side of the of the eyeball instead the back of the eye. That is the case for me in both eyes. I will never lose my central vision according to my retinologist. I’m very grateful!Have a great day ❤️Nancy T

Wow, never heard of that before! I would be very grateful if that is the case for me! My eye Dr. never mentioned it though. He is not a retinologist though.
