What are the odds of progressing from dry AMD to wet AMD?

Dry AMD can progress to wet AMD, and certain factors can increase that risk:
- Large drusen (yellow protein deposits under the macula) raise the risk of progression
- Smoking damages delicate eye tissue and speeds up AMD progression
- Family history of AMD increases overall risk
- Obesity (BMI of 30 or higher) is linked to more severe AMD
