I also have extreme nausea and sometimes vomiting after taking my areds2 even with, during and after eating a full meal! I have tried taking Areds3 which has a lower amount of zinc. It's completely understandable to feel scared, especially when the things meant to help are causing discomfort. Nausea from vitamins is actually a really common complaint, and there are some practical ways to manage it.
Here are a few things worth trying:
- Take vitamins with a full meal rather than a snack — food helps buffer the stomach
- Try splitting the dose throughout the day (e.g., one with each meal) instead of taking them all at once
- Ask your eye doctor if a different brand or formulation might be easier on your stomach
- Talk to your healthcare provider about whether any of the individual nutrients could be obtained through diet instead
A myAMDteam member shared that taking AREDS vitamins one with each meal, three times a day, worked much better for their digestion than taking them all at once. The most important thing is to keep communicating with your doctor. Don't suffer in silence — there may be alternatives or adjustments that work better for your body. As one myAMDteam member wisely put it, what works for one person won't necessarily work for another, and knowing your own body matters most.
You're not alone in this. 💙
