Bright sunlight can actually be one of the trickier conditions to drive in with AMD, as it can affect how clearly you see contrast, colors, and distance. Some people with AMD choose to set their own driving boundaries to stay safe and ease anxiety. Common self-imposed restrictions include:

- Only driving in familiar areas
- Avoiding driving at dawn, dusk, or in glare-heavy conditions
- Keeping trips short
- Avoiding busy roads

Working with a driver rehabilitation specialist or low-vision specialist can help figure out what's safe and manageable for your specific situation. They can also suggest helpful tools like specialized lenses. Always check your local driving laws too, as requirements vary by state.

I try not to drive in sunlight as I have very sensitive eyesight in bright lights. I wear very dark glasses I bought to help me see better and not squint.
